Chyulu Hills National Park located in Makueni county is a great destination for green nature lovers. It was formed in 1983 and covers an area of 741 Km square. This park can be accessed by road from Nairobi using Mombasa road via Emali town to Loitokitok road or by air using domestic and chartered flights from Wilson airport landing at Chyulu hills airstrips namely: Ol Donyo airstrip and Campi ya Kazi airstrip. Chyulu Hills is commonly referred to as the “Green Hills of Africa” as the focal point of attraction is the verdant hills which spread over 100 kilometers from Northwest to South East. The park is part of the Tsavo conservation area. Some of the major attractions in this park are : The Leviathan cave which is a lava tube cave lying in Chyulu Hills. This cave still remains the longest lava tube in Africa. It consists of two sections namely the upper leviathan which is 9152 meters long and the lower leviathan which is 2071 meters long. Another attraction is the Chyulu hills magnificent scenery consisting of volcanic ash cones, barren lava flows and caves. The volcanic hills are covered with green vegetation which is captivating to look at and also boasts 37 species of orchids. Wildlife is also part of attractions in Chyulu hills national park. The park is a home to a number of animal species such as buffalos, bushbuck, the eland, elephants, leopards, giant forest hogs, bush Pigs,reedbucks, and giraffes.

Additionally the diverse birdlife species allows bird lovers to indulge in bird watching activities. This park has approximately 300 species and Lake Jipe sitting across the south western part of the park, is a great bird spotting area.
